Social enterprise

A social enterprise is a business that is focused on or driven by social objectives. Social enterprises are distinct from private sector companies with policies on corporate social responsibility and from charities, although charities are also increasingly looking at ways of maximising income from trading. There are many websites, newsletters, magazines and bulletins circulating information and opportunities for social enterprise and entrepreneurial business activity. Below are some key sources for West Sussex to start you off.

The West Sussex Social Enterprise Network (WSSEN) is a group of organisations that provide countywide infrastructure support for social enterprise in West Sussex. Information and access to suppport is available on the WSSEN website, www.wssen.org.uk. The website aims to support emerging, developing or existing social enterprises in West Sussex. It contains information and factsheets, news items, events and training opportunities and links to information, advice and support agencies. ICIS maintains the WSSEN website on behalf of West Sussex County Council. WSSEN is compiling a Business Directory of social enterprises in West Sussex.
